Directions:

Begin by preparing your cake mix according to the directions on the box or according to your Secret Life of Pets cake recipe. Divide the cake mix among the 6X3″ round pan, the 6×2″ round pan, and the ball cake pan. Bake the pans in the oven for approximately 30-35 minutes or until the cakes appear to be cooked and a toothpick comes out clean. After the cakes are cooked and cooled, use your leveling knife to level off the two round pan cakes. Place one on the bottom, top it with a smooth layer of icing, and then stack the other leveled round cake on top. Top that layer with icing and place the ball cake rounded side up. Cover the stacked cakes with a layer of a crumb coat. Next, use your tip # 233 and decorators bag to pipe white “fur” all over the stacked cakes. After that, use the white fondant to make small front feet for your Gidget. Create indentations for toenails. Use toothpicks to keep the feet in place. Then, use more white fondant to create shaped hind legs and attach those to the sides of your cake.

Next, use your pink fondant to create a small shaped bow for the top of the cake. Use your decorating tools to shape the bow, and use a toothpick to keep the bow in place. Roll out a small amount of the white fondant and use a circular shaped cookie cutter to create the eyes. Use a slightly smaller circular cutter (or the large end of an icing tip) to create two eyes out of the blue fondant. Use your black fondant to create 2 pupils to go on top of the blue “eyes.” Use a little bit of water to create the eyes using the white circular fondant, followed by the blue circular fondant, and finally the black circular fondant. Create a thin rolled black piece of fondant and shape it around the top of each eye. Take additional white fondant and shape a small snout out of it. Use a small amount of black fondant to create a small nose and attach it to the white snout. Use toothpicks to attach the snout and nose to the front of the cake. You can also attach the eyes now. Finally, create small triangular ears out of white fondant. Line them with slightly smaller pink fondant triangles and attach them with toothpicks.
